Coastal buoy vessel BC CORSE launched in Brest

August 25 2023

Ordered in December 2021 by the Armement des Phares et Balises at the MERRE shipyard, the BC CORSE coastal buoy vessel was launched at the end of July in Brest. She now begins her sea trials before sailing to her home port, Ajaccio, at the end of September.

Designed by architect Frédéric Neuman, the ship is 26.6 meters long and 8.5 meters wide. It is powered by two Volvo D16 diesel engines driving two variable-pitch propellers. The vessel also has a 100% electric mode thanks to a lithium-ion battery with a power of about 150 kWh powering two electric motors. The "zero emission" mode will be used in particular during maneuvers and port approaches at a speed of 5knots for 1 hour. Equipped with a large working deck at the stern, the vessel is equipped with a crane with a maximum capacity of 35 tons, a powerful winch and two capstans for buoy handling.
