A new buoy laying vessel for Corsica

december 13th 2021

MERRE (Nort/Erdre) and CIB (Brest) shipyards, both 100% subsidiaries of BMA Group, have been awarded the study and realization of a new 24m coastal buoy laying vessel for Corsica.

In association with Frederic NEUMAN architects for the ship design, MERRE & CIB shipyards are proud to be in charge of the design, industrialization and build of this new low environmental footprint hybrid vessel.

This 24m long vessel will be equipped with a 35T/m crane and several heavy winches for buoy maneuvering. Main propulsion is made through 2 Volvo D16 IMO TIER 3 engines fitted with Diesel Particulate Filters moving controlled-pitch propellers. A 100% electric propulsion mode is also available with 2 electric engines and 150kWh Lithium-Ion batteries. Designed with the objective of minimizing the environmental footprint, the vessel is also equipped with numerous solar panels. This new buoy laying vessels is fitted with a performant dynamic positioning system to allow the Phares et Balises crews to operate with high precision and maximum safety.

Design has already begun and the keel should be laid mid of 1st semester 2022. The boat will be launched in Brest mid 2023 before being delivered by sea to Corsica. Industrialization and detailed design of the vessel will be carried out by MERRE engineering office.

The build will be carried out by the 3 production centers of BMA Group (MERRE, CIB & FORMINOX).
